ABOUT

Maya Smira is a multidisciplinary artist, movement practitioner, and educator whose work brings together yoga, dance, embodied awareness, visual art, and contemplative practices. Her approach is rooted in a long-standing interest in the body as a site of movement, memory, transformation, and connection.

She completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2015, with a focus on Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga, including breathing, meditation, and embodied awareness practices. In 2020, she completed formal training as a Middle Eastern dance instructor. She also holds a BA in Humanities, an MFA in New Genres, and a teaching degree, and has extensive experience teaching art and movement to children, teenagers, and adults.

Her practice is informed by many years of engagement with yoga, dance, Eastern philosophies, meditation, and holistic approaches to wellbeing, as well as extended periods of living and traveling in Asia and Latin America. She is especially drawn to circular movement, repetition, rhythm, ritual, and the relationship between body and nature.Through classes, workshops, and participatory practices, she creates spaces that invite movement, presence, creativity, and connection, with a growing focus on life transitions, grief, renewal, and the ways embodied practice can support both individual and collective experience.
